The First Day of School

The first day of school at Pioneer was August 28^th! What a long-awaited, special day this was for everyone! Miss Hyde and I were so pleased to be at school and jump into learning with the students! There will be many more updates and pictures to come!

The night before school started was a funny one because I was visited by a moose that wouldn’t leave my yard! He came right up to my house and ate the bushes for over an hour! He chose the bush right outside my kitchen window, and I could hear him munching away at the foliage! This was also while I was eating dinner, which was funny because we were about 4 feet from each other, both enjoying a nice meal! I was worried about leaving the cabin the next morning for school, in case he was still hanging around the property! (Imagine your teacher being late on the first day of school because she’s trapped in her house with a moose on guard!) Thankfully he left, and I was on time for the first day of school. And what a lovely one it was!

Hiking

There are so many beautiful hiking trails in Jackson Hole, and not enough time to explore them! Here are some pictures of the few I have ventured on. I hope to fit more hiking trips in before it gets too cold!

Up with People!

Over the weekend I attended a spectacular musical performance by an organization called Up with People! I’m excited to share this with you because I know many of the Great Hearts families have musically talented children who may be interested in being part of such a moving organization. This group of about eighty high school graduates and college students travel the globe and visit various cities for a week at a time. They live with host families, spend their days servicing the community, and put on two truly inspirational and energetic performances! I was moved by the pieces they sang because they were centered on the theme of peace and uniting the world toward this ultimate goal. Some were even in different languages! There were also several classic hits that they covered, and did an excellent job doing so!

Over the course of the past week, I had the pleasure of meeting a few of the Up with People cast-members and hearing about all of the fun they’ve been having traveling, performing, and building lifelong friendships. I learned about the very interesting history of Up with People, which dates back to the turbulent 60's. It was clear to see that these people were thrilled to be in Jackson, and really made an impact while they were here!

I couldn't be happier with my new road bike! I've wanted one since I moved to Arizona (3 years ago), and I finally bought one last week. :) I just couldn't justify living right off a bike path with some of the most beautiful views in the U.S, and not owning one!

Granite Hot Springs!

I have to admit that I felt a bit of 'summer-in-Arizona' nostalgia when I had a swim in the Granite Hot Springs this afternoon! At 107 degrees, one can understand why this landmark is most often visited in the winter months. :)

Despite how literally I interpreted the word "hot" after entering this natural bath-tub, I still really enjoyed it and plan to come back this winter - perhaps by means of a snowmobile! It was also a great way to cap off a fun afternoon of four-wheeling and enjoying the lovely Jackson Hole scenery that I just can't get enough of!
